Ranger / DruidMulticlass Build Guide — D&D 5e
Both key off Wisdom — a Wildshape scout and controller who still shoots, leaning hard into the nature theme.
The synergy
Why Ranger / Druid Works
Ranger and druid share Wisdom as their casting stat, so every point invested in Wisdom powers both spell lists at once. No other ranger multiclass avoids adding a new ability dependency. Druid levels bring genuine control spells — Entangle, Spike Growth, Conjure Animals — that the ranger’s list mentions but never has enough slots to use freely. Full druid progression fills the half-caster’s permanently empty slot budget.
Wild Shape is utility rather than combat in this build. Two uses per short rest to turn into a beast for scouting — a spider on a wall, a hawk overhead, a fish through a flooded passage — and the ranger’s existing Stealth and Perception proficiencies carry into the form. It is the ultimate scout kit: Pass Without Trace on the party, then Wild Shape into something small and invisible to anything without Truesight, and walk through the dungeon ahead of everyone.
The split is flexible. Ranger 5 / Druid X is the standard, banking Extra Attack and the archetype before pivoting. Ranger X / Druid 1–2 is the shallow version: one level of druid adds Goodberry and Absorb Elements (the latter is on the ranger list too, but worth confirming), while two levels add Wild Shape for scouting and the Circle features. Shepherd Druid’s Spirit Totem, for example, augments the party while you keep shooting.
Ability priority: WIS → DEX → CON — Wisdom drives both spell lists and now matters for druid control DCs. Dexterity is your ranged attack stat and AC. Constitution holds concentration on whichever spell you chose — the Ranger/Druid’s hardest decision every combat.

Frequently Asked
Which Druid Circle?
Land Druid recovers spell slots on short rest, which pairs with the ranger’s short-rest preferences. Shepherd Druid’s Spirit Totem supports the party while you shoot. Moon Druid is wasted here — if you want to fight in beast form, go Barbarian/Druid instead.
Does this build compete with itself on concentration?
Yes, and that is its main weakness. Hunter’s Mark, Spike Growth, Entangle and Call Lightning all require concentration. You can only run one at a time, so the decision every combat is: personal damage (Mark) or party control (everything else). Learn to drop the Mark when control matters more.
Ranger 5 / Druid X or deeper Ranger?
Ranger 5 / Druid X if you want the full druid spell list and control tools. Ranger X / Druid 1–2 if you want to stay ranger-primary with a splash of utility and scouting. The deeper split is stronger in campaigns with lots of exploration; the shallow dip is safer.
