What are elves good at in 5e?
Dex +2, Darkvision, free Perception proficiency, advantage against charm and immunity to magical sleep. Trance means they only need four hours of rest. It is one of the most loaded trait lists in the game.
What is the best elf subrace?
High Elf for wizards (Int +1 and a cantrip), Wood Elf for rangers and monks (Wis +1, 35-foot speed, Mask of the Wild), Drow for warlocks and sorcerers (Cha +1, 120-foot darkvision, but sunlight sensitivity).
How does elf Trance work?
Four hours of meditation counts as a long rest instead of eight hours of sleep. It doubles the party’s effective watch coverage and is a bigger deal in practice than most players expect.
Are elves immune to sleep?
To the Sleep *spell* and other magical sleep, yes — completely. They still get tired normally; they just cannot be magically put under, and they have advantage against being charmed.
